Not to be sacrilegious or anything. Honestly. And not to compare ourselves during this holiday season to a pregnant Mary wandering and looking for a place to stay, but sister, I can only imagine.
Brian and I are back on US soil, but are stuck in New York City until WEDNESDAY most likely. Our flight from Moscow was delayed 3 hours, which meant we missed our connection from NYC to KC. Because of the East Coast snowstorm, flights got backed up and horribly out of control.
We made our way from JFK, where we arrived, to LaGuardia, Sunday evening – we were to fly Midwest Express home and they fly out of LaGuardia. We weren’t concerned about this detail originally, because we were to have had about 3 hours between our plane’s arrival from Moscow and our plane’s departure to KC.
Reality? Not so much.
We arrived at LaGuardia Sunday evening and there were practically tumbleweeds blowing around the departure area. Ticket counters were closed (and this is like 8:30 p.m.?) and there were few people around. We managed to find a Midwest representative and we explained our situation.
Then she said there were no flights until Dec. 23.
You should have seen our faces. Here were are back in the US and suddenly home seems farther away than ever.
Thank goodness we found a room at a Holiday Inn Express not far from LaGuardia. Free breakfast. Free LAUNDRY services because I have 1 clean pair of underwear. A McD’s next door for cheap-ish eats since we didn’t plan on staying in a hotel for three more nights (but the airline that delayed us is getting a phone call from us today to see if they’ll help with the hotel since it’s their fault we missed our connection).
Wish us luck. We’ll keep you posted. We’re going to start calling Midwest today to see if there’s any chance of getting on anything.
And we hear there’s a major winter storm headed for the Midwest on…Wednesday.

Oh, that stinks! Well, on the bright side, at least you're stuck in the U.S. for 3 days (as opposed to Moscow--more expensive!) I hope you get home soon!
Good luck. That does kind of suck because I'm sure it's a lot of added expense.
On the bright side ... there are a lot worse places you could be than New York at Christmastime!
This sucks. It's very Planes Trains & Automobiles. You could rent a car and drive home faster than Midwest Express would manage it.

Oh geez!! You must be exhausted!! Yes, at least you're stuck on US soil and not in Moscow, but still. This process is sure an "adventure" to put it nicely.
Oh no! Wishing you luck getting home---you should totally write a book about all this! ;o) Can you at least get into the city to do a Rockefeller Center walk-by?
