So flipping cute

These were our dogs in the yard tonight...

Back at the homestead

We've returned home sweet home after house and dog sitting for my parents since last Tuesday. We're glad we were able to help Mom and Dad out, but were disappointed we couldn't be with them...they were at a family wedding at a lake in the New York Finger Lakes area. But, as nice as it was to help, it's also nice to be home (though Killian and Guinness likely miss the lovely breakfast that they always get when staying at Mammers and Poppers, even when Mama makes the breakfast instead of Mammers when Mammers is gone).

A year ago today

A year ago today we had our first meeting with the social worker who did our homestudy for the adoption. How do I know this? Because our homestudy is dated Sept. 8, 2008 and I needed to contact our adoption consultant and social worker about how to make sure that said homestudy doesn't expire...wouldn't it just be our luck that a referral would come in and we'd be delayed because our homestudy expired or was set to expire?

As I was verifying the date on our homestudy, I had to scroll through it to get to the date section. While doing so, I saw the paragraph that said, "This social worker first met with the Shriners on June 25..."

The good news is that our homestudy "just" needs a three-page addendum with a few things verified by the social worker. We're going to aim to have it to our agency by mid-August so it can be translated and sent to our region by the Sept. 8 date...and we shouldn't lose any time. Ideally. With hope.

Other than that, we have absolutely nothing to update. But, you should all be getting used to that by now!

Today's guest blogger - Killian

This is kind of hard without opposable thumbs and all, but I'm giving it a go. I just have to release some frustrations, and the Mama's blog seems a good place to do that.

I don't know if you know, but there are bunnies who live under my deck. Yes, my deck. I'm a very proprietary girl and everything is about me. My house, my deck, my wants, my needs. You get the picture.

So back to the &*#) bunnies. They are a huge temptation and a huge issue every time my boy (that would be Guinness) and I go into the yard. There's a mama and at least one little one - there probably would have been more, but we found a bunny buffet in early spring and took full advantage. Every time the back door opens, we race out...many times there are multiple bunnies in the yard and we chase them. Oh, what fun.

But guess what? Last night I CAUGHT ONE! Papa Daddy says it was the Mama. I was thrilled! It ran across the yard and I was right on its tail; then I cornered it and chomped! My mama was in the kitchen and saw it all through the window. My Papa Daddy was on my deck so he saw it, too. Guinness was pretty happy and was excitedly following me and my new "friend" (who was still chomped between my jaws) around the yard.

Here's where it gets bad.

Mama made Papa Daddy make me let it go. I wanted to call her a name, but I was too busy trying to get under the deck where the blasted things always run. But now I KNOW I can do it! I WILL do it again! Wish me luck!

The magical Pyrex dish

When my girlfriend, Alison, and her new husband came home from Mexico where they got hitched, Brian and I had a casserole waiting for them in their fridge (we'd been taking care of their doggie and watching out for their place, our old place). I figured they'd want something non-resort-y to eat but wouldn't be up to cooking, nor would they have any food in the house to cook.

Our dish wasn't anything fancy, just an entirely unhealthy concoction called chile rice that has tons of cheese, sour cream, white rice and green chiles. It's hearty enough to be a meal on its own. And, if truth be told, we made a huge double batch and made some for ourselves. And if more truth be told, the reason we made that at all was that Brian was hungry for it!

Last night Ali called to say that she was going to run the dish back by...and that it was full of chicken enchiladas! When I called her back minutes later (I hadn't been able to get to the phone because I was painting my tootsies a blue color called "Splash") I laughed and said the dish must be a magical one filling itself with food for friends! Nothing like a little back-and-forth with food!

So, tonight, the oven will soon get warmed up for our ready-made (and homemade!) chicken enchiladas...and just maybe a margarita or two made from the agave tequila they brought us home from Mexico! Ole!

Oh no you di-n't

Oh yes we did. We had Sheridan's. For dinner.

(And for those not in the know, Sheridan's is frozen custard/ice cream. Brian always gets dirt and worms, which is the vanilla soft serve mixed with Oreos topped with chocolate sprinkles and gummi worms and I get the vanilla soft serve mixed with caramel and pretzel bits. They make the frozen custard fresh throughout the day and we limit ourselves to it 2 times a summer - but usually not for dinner!)

But for a witty title

Zilcho to say but I hate that the last post was a week ago! More work today but then tonight we get to go celebrate the marriage of our friends Alison and Jason! And our nephew has gone home from the hospital!

Otherwise we work. And wait. And work some more. And wait some more. We're beginning to feel like gerbils in a wheel. Or like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. Or like we're walking a journey of a milliongazilliontrillion miles only to find that we've been walking on a treadmill and haven't really gone anywhere in the end.

OK. Off to go take a shower. So I can go to work. (And Brian left before 7 to go to his).

Our rockin' life

Brian left this morning before 7 to go to work; I go in at 3 and work until 8:30 or 9. I told him when he left that I'd see him in roughly 14 hours.

Yeah, rockin'.

And now it's Wednesday

Yep, pretty much just living each day and trying to not get into too much trouble. Not succeeding very well in that vein, but my new resolution after today is to move on from something that's been troubling me. Can't promise I'll be able to execute on this goal, but it's a good one nonetheless.

Now it's time for alcohol. Brian's on his way home and Ali & Jason should call or text soon to tell me they've arrived home safely and that I don't have to fret about lonely Louie. And, Brian apparently received the supplies he ordered to fix the laptop screen that I broke the other day (he says I didn't break it just like he says that I didn't tip the canoe on the Elk River two summers ago, but we both know the truth. It's just really hard for me to steer left if I'm supposed to go right. My brain so does not work that way). I hope the fixes work because my life has been chaotic since I have to actually go into the den to sit down at the computer instead of pulling the laptop onto my lazy lap as it sits on the couch.

OK...NOW it's time for alcohol. Ta ta...
